Painting Holiday with Jenny Aitken 2024

Painting Light with Jenny Aitken in the heart of Italy

20th – 27th September 2024

This Painting Holiday 2024 with Jenny Aitken is suitable for all abilities – Oils is the painting medium.

Course Details

Jenny Aitken is passionate about teaching a solid painterly technique, from compositional skills and tonal study through to colour mixing and brushwork. Much of her process is about mixing colours and tones accurately, with a freer, loose application of paint to achieve impressionistic light and movement. With a simple colour palette, we will follow this process from plein air study through to studio finish, simplifying the stunning scenery of the area to depict beautifully composed, atmospheric paintings; full of light.

Participants are free to bring acrylic if they prefer.

About Jenny Aitken

The Course Leader, Jenny Aitken, is an award-winning artist, known for her atmospheric paintings.

Jenny lives in Derbyshire, not far from the beautiful Peak District.

She has strong family roots and connections to Cornwall and the Channel Islands, and a love for the sea.

Since graduation in Art & Art History from seaside university Aberstwyth in 1998, she has exhibited all over the UK and many awards, She was elected an associate member of the RSMA in 2021, and won the Topbond marine award in 2022.

Because she lives in Derbyshire and has the wonderful Peak District on her doorstep, she paints both plein air and in the studio, focusing on light – whatever the subject.

She regularly travels to paint. Through her use of vibrant colour, texture and movement, she tries, she says, to portray ‘the experience of a place’ – the weather, the seasons, the passage of time and of people passing through. She runs demos and painting workshops around the country, and is a guest writer for The Artist magazine.

As a seasoned tutor, her passion for painting is well known, as is her encouraging and informative teaching style. She exhibits in several galleries including the Harbour Gallery in Cornwall, which represents some of the best contemporary artists in the UK.
